We Interrupt Our Regularly Scheduled Programming
Today a dear friend told me, with some trepidation, that sometimes my writing is a little, well, restrained.
I know this.
I even know that often when I feel most passionately about a subject, my inner editor is most active, cautioning against being too loud, too strong, too strident, too vulnerable, too much, too [fill in the blank].
After that conversation I heard this song on the radio:
Marvin Gaye sings:
I used to go out to parties
And stand around
‘Cause I was too nervous
To really get down
But my body yearned to be free
I got up on the floor and thought
Somebody could choose me
No more standin’ there beside the walls
I done got myself together baby
And now I’m havin’ a ball
Tomorrow Women’s History Month posts will resume, with, I hope, a little less restraint.
We’ll have a ball. Maybe we’ll even really get down.

me again. back to say that your writing doesn’t feel restrained to me, but then i know that backstage, you are in the final stages of penning a rather intense book. that can be emotionally draining, so it’s a nice balance to write of everyday stuff here on this blog. just sayin’. . .
